Hello everybody and most especially our fellow travelers! What a phenomenal adventure!!!!
Below is a tiny sampling; currently there are two web galleries - one for overal highlights as well as one that is eagle specific. As we progress, we will be posting galleries for each day.
For those unfamiliar with the story behind this we were given the opportunity of a lifetime - to be photographers on a two week voyage from Bellingham, WA to Ketchikan, AL, courtesy of the premier yacht charter company, NW Explorations.
Travel was aboard one of three Grand Banks private yachts, and guided by Brian P., business owner and experienced sea-farer. Each day brought its magic, the only question was when it would show up, but show up it certainly did. Besides the fantastic companionship of our fellow travelers, beyond the scenic fjords and wildlife galore, we had the privilege of simply enjoying a part of the world that remains largely untouched and unspoiled by humans. From eagles to otters, porpoises to jellyfish, bear to mink, the world rushed past us at a blistering 8 knots. Waterfalls, sheltered coves, tidal whirlpools, 3000 foot sheer and pristine snow covered mountains rising out of the water were the elements to experience in unending variety and beauty.
Each morning began with the rumble of the generator, soon followed by the engines awakening and ready to transport us to a new location, and a slow and constant barrage of delight. Once arrived, it was tie up the boats, launch the dinghy or kayaks, and take in our surroundings in a way that few people ever could. Doing do with some of the warmest and most alive people brought an invaluable sense of comradeship that remains unparalleled.
Capping each night with quite literally the freshest and finest seafood took one's taste buds into a realm impossible to explain. For seafood aficionados, dinners weren't so much a meal, as a rebirth of the palate: Crab coming out of the water immediately was translated by way of ready boiling pots, to an epicurean expose of taste, courtesy of one of the master chefs skippering another boat in the group. Rockfish, shrimp, oysters - the simple overwhelming bounty could only be understood through participation.
All we needed to do was bring our cameras and shoot…
